Our town has already had too much mourning this year, yet we have been dealt another horrible blow. Jerry Fuchs, drummer for local Athens band Maserati, died in Brooklyn after falling down an elevator shaft. He was rushed to the hospital and passed away in the early Sunday morning hours.
News of his death quickly spread to his friends here in Athens via a long series of very sad Facebook updates and tweets. I cannot express how devastating this loss is. Fuchs was an incredible drummer, capable of playing any style and holding the audience in his hands the entire show. There was not a single time I saw him perform that I was not amazed. Besides drumming, he also did some illustrations for Chunklet, who posted that beautiful tribute to a dear friend. All of our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his band, and his many, many friends around the world.
