Dr. Kenneth Fischer, a longtime professor at UGA’s Hugh Hodgson School of music, died around midnight on Tuesday night, according to a press release from the music school. Dr. Fischer was a well-known figure at the school, having spent many years there teaching students and eventually acting as Graduate Coordinator.
Dr. Fischer had been in surgery on Tuesday but suffered complications that ultimately led to his passing. Dr. Fischer joined the faculty in 1979, making him an incredibly important part of the music school. His students describe him as a “one of a kind person that worked so hard for his students.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
