Ok, fair warning: The following post has very little to do with Athens music. It does, however, have to do with a few things that Athenians do very well: being bleeding hearts about the environment and doing something about it. We here at AthensMusicJunkie are about as bleeding heart as they come.
If you’ve seen the news lately, you know that there was a really bad oil spill off the Gulf Coast. According to reports, there is now a 10 day ban on fishing in the Gulf and a class action lawsuit against BP. The damage from these spills is often incalculable. Wildlife gone, fishing and dining industries up in the air…
So here’s what we can do about it. Local salon Honey’s is holding a panty-hose donation drive. Say what?! Yes. It appears that the combination of panty-hose and hair clippings can actually be used to clean up oil spills.
The drive will send the donated stuff to Matter of Trust to help create hair mats to clean up areas of the spill. Also for any of you in or about Louisiana right now, The National Wildlife Federation is working with the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana on ways that people in this area can help clean up the spill.
