Athens Music News Roundup

Steve Bell

We start things off with a slight departure this time on AthensMusic News Roundup. First up, a word from WUGA…

“The Staff would like to say thank you to Steve Bell for his leadership and friendship. Today is Steve’s last day as captain of this ship. Steve will continue as Dir of Broadcast, Video& Photography at UGA. Under Steve’s leadership WUGA enjoyed more success than at any other time in its history. Effective March 1st, Jimmy Sanders will be the new Dir of TV/Radio. The staff welcomes Jimmy and is looking forward to the station’s continued success.”

Tiny Mix Tapes has an interview with Laura Carter about the Elephant Six Collective.

In the first trickle of our eventual R.E.M. related waterfall of coverage (you knew it was coming), the band’s having virtual “listening parties” across the globe. We get NPR while the rest of the world will get Spotify. Dangit, Spotify! *shakes fists*

What is the Plush Palace? Apparently another house venue. Bands interested in playing the Chase St. hangout should contact contact Patrick at

Congrats to Flagpole‘s The McCommunists for winning the Nuci’s Space Athens Business Rocks Battle of the Bands.  Of course, those Commies don’t know what AthensMusicJunkie is cooking up for next year. Stay tuned…
