We at AMJ are so sad to hear of Paul “Buzz” Hammond’s passing on Tuesday. He was 49. Paul was a massive part of the early Athens music scene, playing in bands like Little Tigers and Time Toy. He was talented too, playing bass, guitar, and saxophone. To say that he played a large part of the soundtrack of Athens at that time is an understatement.
As a friend said, “He was an inspiration and will be greatly missed. He was, without a doubt, one who had his finger on the pulse of the best that music had to offer, past and present, and could create effortlessly with a guitar. His knowledge of the history of avant garde, pop and new wave was astounding.”
Athens has suffered a true loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his many friends and family.
Definitely want to send Paul some <3! Glad to see there are people out there that are going to miss him and keep his memory alive. What a nice and funny guy!
Learning this makes me very sad & wistful.
RIP Buzz.
