Flashback: The Swimming Pool Q’s

A long, long time ago, I used to host Sound of the City on WUOG. And on that show, I used to play a record from a band called the Swimming Pool Q’s. Now, if you’ve never heard of them, it’s ok. They formed and released two albums on A & M records before I was even born so don’t feel bad if the name’s not familiar.

The Q’s were reaaaallly 80s. They were contemporaries of the B-52s, The Brains, and so on, even touring with The Police at one point. Think Dreams So Real with less polish and you’ve got ’em. They had a rougher edge to their tunes than some other pop bands of the time. Still plenty poppy, of course.

All of this is to say that the guys have set up a Kickstarter to fund the deluxe reissues of the Swimming Pool Q’s first two albums. Give enough and they’ll even take you to dinner. Seriously. Anyway, they were a great band to listen to at WUOG and I hope that they get the funds to do this. You’ve got until October 8th to toss some money their way. So check it out. Now I’m off to search the couch for change. I need me some Q.
