Our dearest Sloan Simpson, master of recorded sound, historian of local live shows, and good buddy to all, has created a full fledged album called “System Update” under the name Sloan Brothers and it comes out TOMORROW. Yes, Friday the 13th. And we’re honored that he decided to share it with us (and you) a little early.
System Update is a musical force of nature featuring a veritable who’s who of local musicians. You’ve got the guitars of Kevin Sweeney (Hayride), vocals from Robert Schneider (Elephant Six), Andrew Rieger (Elf Power), and Kevin Lane (The Possibilities), and a heaping of other local superstars to round out the roster. Not that Sloan needed any of these folk to sound great on his own. It turns out that having a good ear for music and mixing can extend to your own musical projects too.
“Love You So Good” is a heartbreaking recollection of a mother’s love and how hard it is to love yourself that much in her absence. The song itself is gentle and floating, caressing your ears and heart with harmony. You might cry a little, truth be told. On the other end of the spectrum is the aptly named “Anxiety,” a disco ditty dedicated to intrusive thoughts and lingering panic from personal PTSD.
System Update, the debut album from Sloan Brothers, is available Friday, May 13th, 2022 from Science Project Records. Get it where you get all your tunes!
