So much for March “coming in like a lion and out like a lamb.” Quite the reverse around here, right? Anyway, we’ve got a lot to look forward to in April. I know I have at least four out of town shows I’m attending. Let’s get crackin’ shall we?
First up is a show happening tomorrow night, Tuesday, April 4th, at Hendershot’s. Wish ol’ Seth a happy belated birthday while listening to the ever great jazz of Kenosha Kid. Music starts around 7pm and remember, no phones!
On Thursday, April 6th venture over to Hotel Indigo (yeah, it’s been a while for us too) and get your roots on with the guitar stylings of MrJordanMrTonks. It’s part of the Live After Five series so get there at 5:30 for a FREE show.
Old school Athens music fans will be overjoyed to hear that the Chickasaw Mudd Puppies are playing the 40 Watt on Friday, April 7th. The band is releasing a new album and have brought Beggar Weeds and The Howdies along for the night.
If you really just want to leave town for a bit, the Masters of Songwriting show in Madison, GA may be just the thing for you. Featuring Randall Bramblett and Shawn Mullins, if you’ve got $75 to spend on Saturday, April 8th, then musical bliss can be yours.
On Wednesday, April 12th I’ll be watching Orville Peck at the Georgia Theatre. So, ya know, maybe see you there.
Friday, April 14th is a difficult choice for theatre lovers. You can go see Singin’ in the Rain at the Morton Theatre, A Little Night Music at the UGA Fine Arts Theatre, or Red Herring at the Town and Gown. No wrong choices here.
It’s been too long since we’ve gotten new material from songwriter Adam Klein but the long drought is over with Klein’s show on Saturday, April 22nd at Hendershot’s. Celebrate “Holidays in United States” alongside Russell Cook and The Sweet Teeth.
Every time I try to excise “vibe” from my vocabulary, I get drawn back in. This time Volumes Hip Hop is throwing The Vibe at Cine on Friday, April 28th. Featuring performances from Kxng Blanco, Anime Zayy, T.W.I.N., Kenarri, Moone, and Kira, you’d be a darn fool for missing a show this loaded.
And that’s not even everything, folks. As always, if you’ve got a show coming up, email athensmusicjunkie@gmail.com and we’ll try to get it into a preview. Thanks and stay safe out there!
