Local Action: May 2023 Edition

Happy Townie Summer y’all! The streets are a little more clear, the local shops are closing for cleaning for a week or so, and everything is a tiny bit more chill. In that spirit, we’re keeping it short and sweet so you can mosey along to other parts of the Internet.

First up, The Story of the B-52s: Neon Side of Town is now available at your favorite booksellers. As of writing this today, it sits at #1 in New Music Books category on the site which must not be named. Well done!

Local heavy metal HQ Shadebeast has moved yet again. You’ll find them down at 149 Oneta Street now.

The full and official ATHFEST lineup is HERE and we’re already a little overwhelmed at the variety of options. A lot of the usual venues are here but there’s some new faces and places that will hopefully stick around after this year’s event.

UGA Presents announced its lineup for the 23-24 Season. A quick glance reveals shows from The Indigo Girls with a symphony orchestra, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and other heavy hitters. Details are HERE.

While we’re browsing the Flagpole, this interesting tidbit comes along. The Arena downtown is short $11 million in funding. Read the whole thing HERE.

While we’ve got you here, please, dear locals, take this ACC Downtown Event Survey really quick. If you think events are important to the well being of our downtown, let the folks at city hall know!

We’ll catch ya out there.
